Lights before Dickens on Main weekend

Boerne’s Christmas season opens with Dickens on Main, held on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving and running since 2000. The city says it transforms downtown Boerne’s Hill Country Mile into a vintage Christmas experience. The official tree lighting is at Main Plaza on Friday, and the streets close each night at 4 p.m.

The Holidays in Boerne site lists Dickens on Main, Weihnachts Weekend, Stocking Stroll and Kinder Fest, across three weekends from Thanksgiving weekend to late December. It gave no dates when we read it, so check the city’s calendar for this year.

Installs start October 20, which leaves weeks before Thanksgiving. We install and take down outside business hours, so your doors stay open and the lot stays clear. Text the business address and Pratt will tell you what the timing looks like.

What Boerne’s lighting code says about seasonal lights

Appendix D of the Unified Development Code, the version the city posts (updated July 28, 2021), lists seasonal holiday lighting under Class 3, decorative lighting. For ornamental lights it says decorative strings of lamps or bulbs must not create glare on adjacent streets or property, and its exemptions include “ornamental lights that are string lighting.”

The same appendix sorts the city into three lighting districts, drawn on the city’s Lighting Area Map. Ask the city which one your address is in, since the code describes them in general terms. The rules can change, and we are not the city, so check the current version before you decide.

  • District 1: an urban area with primary land uses for commercial, business and apartments, surrounded by suburban residential areas.
  • District 2: a business area along US 87 and River Road, and the Historical District, surrounded by residential areas.
  • District 3: primarily residential uses.

Warm white and Kendall County’s dark-sky push

Kendall County is working toward Dark Sky certification. Precinct 3 Commissioner Richard Chapman told The Boerne Star in July 2026 that compliance can be as simple as moving from 5,000 Kelvin bulbs to 3,000 Kelvin, and that Buc-ee’s plans to meet the dark-sky initiatives at its Boerne location.

Our LED lights come in warm white or colour, custom cut to the roofline so no wire shows. If your landlord or your neighbours care about glare, say so when you text. Walkway, driveway and landscape-border lighting are available, and tree lighting is on request, quoted separately.

Which Boerne properties we light, and which we do not

Commercial lighting covers storefronts, offices, dealerships and managed properties in Boerne, from Main Street shops to businesses out by the interstate. If your building is in the Historic District, the city says its Historic Landmark Commission reviews building and sign changes there, so ask whether lights need a look.

We do not hang Christmas lights on Boerne homes. Christmas lights for homes go up in New Braunfels, San Marcos and Seguin. Homes in Boerne can have lights that stay up all year instead.

The commercial service area lists the other towns, and the gallery shows finished rooflines.

Takedown, boxes and what comes next

Takedown happens after New Year’s. The lights are boxed and packed for you to keep, because Pratt does not store lights, so decide where they will sit until next December.

Boerne is where Texas 46 meets Interstate 10 and US 87, and Bulverde businesses have their own page. A property manager with several Boerne addresses can text them all, and each property is quoted for itself. For next steps, request a quote or contact Pratt.

Do you hang Christmas lights on Boerne homes?

No. Christmas lights for homes go up in New Braunfels, San Marcos and Seguin. In Boerne we light businesses for Christmas. Homes in Boerne can have lights that stay up all year instead.

Permanent lighting in Boerne

Can my Boerne shop be lit before Dickens on Main?

Installs start October 20, and Dickens on Main is the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving, so there are weeks in between. Text the business address to 361‑522‑5552.

Will installing disrupt my Main Street business hours?

No. We install and take down outside business hours, so the doors stay open and the lot stays clear. The lights are custom cut to the roofline so no wire shows.

Does a Boerne business need approval for Christmas lights?

Boerne’s Unified Development Code lists seasonal holiday lighting as decorative lighting, and the Historic District has its own Historic Landmark Commission. We cannot say what applies to your address, so ask the city, and your landlord or HOA if you have one.

What happens to the lights after New Year’s?

We take them down after New Year’s, then box and pack them for you to keep. Pratt does not store lights, so they go home with you or your property manager.

How is a commercial lighting quote priced in Boerne?

Every quote is priced for the property, with no price list, and the quote is free. Tree lighting is quoted separately. Text the address to Pratt at 361‑522‑5552, the fastest way to reach him, or call.
