What kinds of Round Rock properties do you light for the holidays?

Round Rock has several very different kinds of commercial property, and the work changes with each. A Main Street storefront is a short roofline. Round Rock Premium Outlets, at 4401 N Interstate 35 since August 2006 and listing 125 stores, is a different job. We name it to show the range, not to say we have lit it.

What we do is the same on all of them. LED Christmas lights in warm white or color are custom cut to your roofline, so no wire shows. We install and take them down outside business hours, so customers can still get in and your parking stays clear.

We also do tree lighting on request, quoted separately, and walkway, driveway and landscape-border lighting. Text the address and a photo of the front of the building, and Pratt will tell you what the job looks like. For more on how it works, see our commercial Christmas lighting page.

Lighting a storefront in downtown Round Rock

Downtown Round Rock already gets dressed for December. The city’s holiday guide lists Hometown Holiday, with Main Street lit up with lights and decor, so a storefront there sits on a street already decorated for the season.

It is also an area with extra rules. Downtown is anchored by a National Register Historic District, and a property with Historic Overlay Zoning needs a Certificate of Appropriateness from the city before work that changes the exterior. The city’s downtown sign standards say building signs in the MU-L district may not be lit except by external illumination on Main and Georgetown Streets. Those rules are written for signs and for changes to a building, and nothing we found says how the city treats seasonal lights.

So if you are on or near Main Street, ask Planning and Development Services at 512-218-5428 whether your building has the overlay and whether temporary roofline lights are covered. Check your lease and your landlord too. When you have an answer, text us the address.

Timing: December weather and the takedown after New Year’s

Installs start October 20 and the lights come down after New Year’s. Through that stretch, Austin’s official climate station at Camp Mabry, the closest National Weather Service station we found with published normals, shows an average December high of 63.9 degrees and a low of 43.4, with about 3.4 nights a December at or below freezing. January is the coldest month, with averages of 62.5 and 41.8. Round Rock sits just north of Austin, so those figures are a guide, not a forecast.

After New Year’s the lights are boxed and packed for you to keep. Pratt does not store lights, so decide where yours will live before the season ends.
