How we work

  • Govee permanent lights

A slim track, white or black, holds the lights. They stay on the house all year.

  • You run them from your phone

Warm white, colours and patterns for every season, changed from an app over WiFi.

  • Text us for a quote

It’s the fastest way to reach Pratt. Tap “Text for a quote”, add your address and send.

  • Installed spring through fall

We schedule permanent lighting outside the holiday season, never during it.

  • Across Central Texas

We install permanent lighting across Central Texas. Not sure your address is in range? Text it and Pratt will tell you.

Can I put permanent lights on a historic building downtown?

Downtown Round Rock is anchored by a National Register Historic District, bounded by Brushy Creek, Lake Creek and the railroad, and the city says it sits less than half a mile from I-35. Separately, the city can add Historic Overlay Zoning to a building or a whole property. If yours has it, an older city brochure for owners of historic buildings says you need a Certificate of Appropriateness before any work that changes the exterior, paint color included.

That brochure lists lampposts among the additions that need a certificate, and it says the Historic Preservation Commission reviews projects against adopted design guidelines. It does not mention roofline lighting, so we can’t tell you how the city would treat a slim track on a particular building. That is a question for the city, not for us.

Downtown also has its own sign standards. Building signs in the MU-L district may not be lit except by external illumination on Main and Georgetown Streets. That rule covers signs, not roofline track, and we are not saying it applies to your lights.

  • Ask the city whether your address has Historic Overlay Zoning.
  • Call Planning and Development Services at 512‑218‑5428 and describe a white or black track on the roofline.
  • Then [text Pratt the address](/quote) and say what the city told you.

What do HOAs like Teravista’s say about roofline lights?

Teravista is a 1,500-acre master-planned community that its own association says was built in 2001 and has almost 3,400 homes. Its community site has an Association Documents section and names Goodwin & Company as the management company. The site does not say what the documents allow for exterior lighting, so we won’t guess.

The same goes for every other Round Rock neighborhood with an association: read your covenants, or ask your manager whether a permanent track on the roofline needs approval before you book.

We install the track in white or black, so you can pick the one closer to your fascia and trim. The lights themselves are warm white, colors and patterns, all controlled from the Govee app over WiFi. How permanent lighting works is on the main page, and the permanent lighting FAQ covers the common questions.

Round Rock summers, hail and the odd freeze

Permanent lights live outdoors for every month of the year. Austin’s official climate station at Camp Mabry, the closest National Weather Service station we found with published normals, shows a July average high of 96.6 degrees and 29 days at or above 90 in a normal July. August runs a little hotter, with an average high of 97.8. Round Rock sits just north of Austin, so treat those figures as close, not exact.

Hail is the other fact of life here. On September 24, 2023, a storm dropped baseball-sized hail on the Austin, Georgetown and Round Rock area, and Round Rock ISD staff later said the district could be looking at up to $70 million in repairs. If your roof is being repaired or replaced after hail, tell Pratt when you text, because the track goes on the roofline.

Winter is milder but not frost-free. The National Weather Service says Camp Mabry sees sub-freezing temperatures about 12 days a year, and 6.4 inches of snow fell there on February 14 and 15, 2021.

Round Rock’s businesses range from Main Street storefronts to the long I-35 retail strip, where Round Rock Premium Outlets has stood at 4401 N Interstate 35 since 2006.
