What do the Square’s design rules say about holiday lights?

If your business is in the nine blocks around the Williamson County courthouse (Area 1 of the Downtown Overlay) or in the rest of the overlay (Area 2), the city’s Historic District Design Guidelines apply. They say approval is needed for any change to the outside of a building, and the Historic and Architectural Review Commission and the Historic Preservation Officer handle review. Ask the city whether seasonal lights count before you book.

On string lights, Area 1 says they shall be dark green, brown or black with bulbs no larger than 10 to 15 watts. It also says using them to highlight a building’s architecture, canopies and windows may be appropriate for seasonal decoration. In both areas, lighting that changes colour or creates motion is not appropriate, and Area 2 adds that multi-coloured lights are not allowed. The guidelines name 2700K to 3000K as the appropriate colour temperature for building lights.

Warm white is one of the options we offer, and colour is another. In the Downtown Overlay, find out which one the city will accept before you pick. Then text the address and what you have in mind.

Lighting of the Square, the Christmas Stroll and your front door

The city’s holiday kickoff is the Lighting of the Square. In 2025 it was Friday, November 28 at 5:30 p.m., and the downtown holiday lights stayed lit every evening through January 1. Check the city for this year’s date. Early December brings the Christmas Stroll on the Downtown Square, hosted by the Downtown Georgetown Association.

Our installs start October 20, well before the Lighting of the Square, and takedown comes after New Year’s. Both happen outside business hours, so doors stay open and the lot stays clear on the busy weekends too.

NOAA’s 1991 to 2020 normals for the Georgetown Lake station show an average December high near 62 degrees and a low near 38. They also give a 50 percent chance that the first 32-degree night has arrived by November 24. For trees, the Area 1 guidelines say string lights shall not be left in trees year round, to protect the tree. Ours come down after New Year’s, and tree lighting is on request, quoted separately.

Williams Drive, I-35 and the big shopping centres

Away from the historic core, Community Impact’s May 2026 roundup points to new business growth along Williams Drive and I-35, and in the Wolf Ranch and Parmer Ranch shopping centres. Wolf Ranch Town Center, Parmer Ranch Marketplace and Bluebonnet Plaza are all named there. The quote is priced for your property. For a centre, text the address and tell us which frontages you want lit.

Outside the historic overlay, check your lease and any landlord or centre standards before you book. Here is what we can do for a business:

  • LED Christmas lights, warm white or colour, custom cut to the roofline so no wire shows
  • Walkway, driveway and landscape-border lighting
  • Tree lighting on request, quoted separately
  • Installed and taken down outside business hours, then boxed and packed for you to keep

Is this Georgetown, Texas, and what do we light here?

This page is for Georgetown, Texas, the Williamson County seat on I-35, north of Austin. It is not Georgetown, Kentucky. We light Georgetown businesses for Christmas, from the historic core to the shopping centres out by I-35. Commercial Christmas lighting in Round Rock is the nearest page back toward Austin.

We light businesses here, not homes. Christmas lights for homes go up in New Braunfels, San Marcos and Seguin. Homes in Georgetown can have lights that stay up all year instead. The full list of towns is on the commercial service area page, and the quote form is the place to start.

Can a Square business put Christmas lights on its building?

The city’s design guidelines say string lights used to highlight a building’s architecture, canopies and windows may be appropriate for seasonal decoration, and that approval is needed for exterior changes in the overlay. Ask city staff first, then text us the address.

Can string lights stay up in trees on the Square all year?

No. For the blocks around the courthouse, the guidelines say string lights in trees shall not be left there year round, to protect the tree’s health. Our commercial lights come down after New Year’s, boxed and packed for you to keep. Tree lighting is on request, quoted separately.

When are commercial Christmas lights installed in Georgetown?

How much does commercial Christmas lighting cost in Georgetown?

Every quote is priced for the property, and the quote is free. There is no price list. Text the address to 361‑522‑5552 and Pratt will come back with a quote for your storefront, office or centre.
